Story Boards

Design Story Boards

Google Earth image .

This shows the type of terrain I'm attempting to recreate (well - obviously a very small chunk of it!). It is grabbed from Google Earth and is along the north bank of the Columbia River Gorge showing a fill, small cutting and a small lake. The design challenge is to fit this onto a narrow N scale baseboard.

Twenty or so years ago when I used to buildmodel railways, I would tend to design the scenery as a story board, the story being the train's journey. Each baseboard module would have its own chapter / board in the story board.

There have been many advances over the last twenty years and possibly the most useful to me has been the computer. This has enabled me to survey the area being modelled using Google earth and MSN Live Maps, taking a number of very useful screen grabs. Also, I have been able to grabs images from DVDs and the internet and paste them all together to form my story board for Horsethief Bridge.

Scenic requirements include:-

  1. Waterside run, possibly with a fill & bridge.
  2. Luscious greenery.
  3. Rock faces.
  4. Possibly a jetty.
  5. Slide detector fence at tunnel entrance.

I will put some photos up that I have been using as reference if I can get clearance.
