Phase 1 - Track Laying

Phase 1 comprises a 12 road staging yard with double track entrance / exit at both ends, in effect, two six-road staging yards. Two double cross-overs will be located on the adjacent benchwork.
Track in the staging yards is Peco Streamline Code 80 nickel silver. Switches are all medium radius electro-frogs. Some of the tighter curves are set track, other curves were laid using Tracksetta templates. The straight track was also laid using Tracksetta templates.
All trackwork is glued in place using white pva which holds it firm but enables it to be ripped up again relatively easily when making alterations. Peco fishplates are also used, both metal and the plastic insulation types.

Because Phase 1 is purely staging yard, there is no ballasting required. All trackwork is glued directly to cork floor tiles which in turn is glued directly to the plywood benchwork.
Track laying commenced following setting out the whole plan using a laser level. This was purchased for less than £5.00 from Tesco and made the work so much easier. It was also used during track laying to check alignment. The other 'boon' that greatly expedited track laying was the Xuron track cutter - well worth the cost, a snip at that price (sorry).
