Building My Website

Nothing too Technical !!!

Basically, I use Macromedia / Adobe Dreamweaver. Though I have briefly flirted with Microsoft's FrontPage in the past, I have always used Dreamweaver and I hope the underlying simplicity and logic in the software is not going to be lost now that Macromedia have merged with Adobe.

I still use Dreamweaver MX2004, can't see any point in upgrading (especially as I will have to pay for this myself these days). I used to lecture in 'ICT in Education' at a university so I am reasonably skillful in using Flash (wonderful program) but don't see any need for it in this project. It would take too much time away from modelling.

The reason that I prefer Dreamweaver to FrontPage is the use of the Asset Library and templates. Having set up the navigation layouts as assets, i can simply make one alteration on the original asset or template and Dreamweaver will automatically update every page that is affected. Wonderful. This is a program that is really worth getting to grips with.

For bitmap image manipulation I generally use Macromedia Fireworks and Paint Shop Pro version 6 (really old but still does the job wonderfully simply). I don't like the older version of FreeHand that I have. I prefer to use either Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro and sometimes Flash for vector graphics (see the blocking diagram in the DCC section).

It's all dead easy really - and quick. The only thing that I dislike about Dreamweaver is the spell checker. I will get around to using this - honestly!
